When does an athlete become a champion? In sports we all see the medal presentations or the shout of triumph and the tears of joy.
For many young athletes its inspiring to see your idols on the big screen achieving their goals and dreams. Its equally easy to aspire to be like them and achieve what they achieved.
If only that were the case.
Allan Thompson said “champions do not become champions when they win the event but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character”
In sports, you know what no one sees? The training and preparation. Nobody sees the hours or days you put in. when they hand you your medal there’s no mention of how long it took you to get there.
That’s where champions are made.
Rather than focus on the achievement and celebration, ask yourself the true question of what they did to get there.
Remember, knowing is not enough you must apply, willing is not enough you must do.
