Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He played and won championships for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers. One thing young athletes can learn from him is that knowledge is power in sports.
Out of the 20 seasons he played, he was an NBA All-Star for 19 of them. That is still a record. Kareem retired in 1989 and in 2007 ESPN voted him the greatest center of all time.
There is so much that can be learnt from such a successful athlete. In this episode I highlight 3 lessons that Kareem can teach us one of which is always have mentors. This cannot be overstated if you want to succeed in sports. They would teach you things you don’t need to find out on your own.
Also you’ll why preparation is key in sports and its the athletes who prepare best that succeed the most. And finally, knowledge is power in sports. The fact that you know more than your peers is already an advantage for you.
I break down the rest of his career on this episode of Athlete Maestro.
Remember, knowing is not enough you must apply, willing is not enough you must do.
