This is an important question every athlete must consistently ask themselves. What are you willing to sacrifice for success in sports.
“The difference between the good and the great is their willingness to sacrifice” – Kareem Abdul-Jabar.
Kareem is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. So, when he says sacrifice is the difference he has a point.
Marta is a Brazilian professional football player and a winner of the Fifa Women’s World Player of the year award 5 times.
She didn’t have the best of upbringings in Brazil but football was always her way out. She sacrificed to get to where is today and that’s what we illustrate in this episode.
The sacrifices an athletes makes largely determine the kind of success they have. For Michael Phelps he once had to train for 5 days in row to be the most decorated olympian of all time. That meant missing family engagements and weddings and even time with friends.
What you are willing to sacrifice depends on bad you want to succeed in the first place. If you want it bad enough you’ll be willing to give anything.
Early mornings.
Long training sessions.
Time away from friends.
These are just some of the essentials of an athlete willing to sacrifice.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN FROM THIS EPISODE
- You must sacrifice to succeed in sports
- You make sacrifice decisions everyday
- What Marta has had to sacrifice to be regarded as the best
- Plus much more….
